Abstract

The objectives of this work are to measure the concentration of radon and radium contents and other radiological effects in  samples of liquid foodstuffs collected from Palestinian markets by using passive technique contain Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors SSNTDs ( ). The results showed that average radon concentration levels in fruit juice, soft drink, milk and other liquid foodstuff samples are: 152.0, 162,0, 142,6 and 135,3 , respectively; and the average concentration of radium contents are 2.12, 2.28, 2.00 and 1.90  for fruit juice, soft drink, milk and other liquid foodstuff samples, respectively. The obtained values provided the levels of radon and radium concentration in most samples which are less than the safe limits as recommended by ICRP (200- 600 Bqm-3), therefore, there is no risk of taking these drinks and no health hazards related to radiation. It is worth noting that the measurements obtained in this study establish a foundational database of activity levels, providing a valuable reference for future research evaluating the potential impacts of forthcoming events.
